Ferolyn Powell – President & CEO

Ferolyn is an executive with over 20 years experience in the medical device industry. She is currently President, CEO and Director of Evalve. Prior to joining Evalve in 1999, Ms. Powell held various positions at General Surgical Innovations (acquired by Tyco) including VP of Operations, with responsibility for Quality and Regulatory Affairs. Previously, she served as Director of R&D at Adjacent Surgical (acquired by GSI) and at Guidant Corporation in the atherectomy catheter division Devices for Vascular Interventions (DVI). Prior to DVI, Ms. Powell held various technical management positions at Frantz Medical Development and Life Systems. She holds a M.S.E. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Akron and a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Cleveland State University.


John Rasmusson – Chief Financial Officer, VP Finance & Administration

John Rasmusson joined Evalve in March 2003 and brings with him over 21 years experience in the medical device, pharmaceutical and internet fields. In addition, John has worked for several start-up and pre-IPO companies, both in the United States and in Europe. Prior to joining Evalve he held the position of CFO, EVP of Finance and Administration for BioSpace, a provider of web based software and internet solutions for life science companies. He previously held the position of VP and CFO of The X-Stream Network, a pan-European ISP and telco start up, and senior financial positions with General Surgical Innovations, Connective Therapeutics and Envision Surgical Systems. He also spent 10 years with Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, a division of Guidant Corporation. John holds a BSBA from the University of Phoenix.


Liz McDermott – VP, Regulatory & Clinical Affairs and Quality Assurance

Liz has over 25 years of experience in research and development and regulatory and clinical affairs in the medical device industry. Prior to joining Evalve as Vice President of Regulatory and Clinical Affairs in February, 2002, she was Vice President of Research and Development and Clinical Affairs at Guidant Corporation. From 1994 until 1996, Liz led product development at Pilkington Barnes Hind (PBH), a medical device company that develops and manufactures novel contact lens products, as Vice President of Research and Development and Regulatory Affairs. During her tenure at PBH, Liz served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Contact Lens Institute. In 1984 she joined Advanced Cardiovascular Systems as a project engineer and went on to hold a variety of leadership positions over 10 years, including Director of Research and Development and Director of Regulatory and Clinical Affairs. Liz has a B.S. and M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, and has served on the Case School of Engineering Visiting Committee.


Christopher S. Dauer – Sr. VP, Sales & Marketing

Chris has over 22 years of experience in diverse health care sectors, with a focus in medical devices. His responsibilities have included positions in sales management, marketing, business development, strategy, and finance. Chris joined Evalve in 2004 after serving as Vice President of Sales and Marketing at St. Francis Medical Technologies, Inc., which develops non-fusion implants for spinal applications and was acquired by Kyphon, Inc. From 1996 to 2002, Chris led the marketing effort at Fusion Medical Technologies, Inc., ultimately as Vice President of Marketing. Fusion, a developer and marketer surgical sealants, was acquired by Baxter Healthcare in May 2002. From 1990 to 1996, Chris served in a variety of functions at Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, Inc., which in 1995 became part of Guidant Corporation. Among other responsibilities, Chris launched the ACS Multi-Link® coronary stent in Europe. Chris earned a Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude from Brown University and an MBA from Stanford University.


Jan Komtebedde – VP, Marketing & Business Development

Dr. Jan Komtebedde, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, is a veterinary surgeon by training. Jan has over 21 years experience in cardiovascular research, including 11 years of clinical and business experience in the medical device industry. Prior to Evalve, Jan spent over 5 years with Heartport, acquired by Johnson and Johnson company. The last positions Jan held at Heartport were Director of Business Development and Director of Clinical Research & Development. Before Heartport, Jan owned and managed a Specialty Referral Practice and was a member of the Faculty at the University of Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine. Jan holds a D.V.M. from the State University of Utrecht in The Netherlands


Troy Thornton – VP, Research and Development

Troy has led the development efforts at Evalve since 2000, and has over 22 years of cardiovascular device design, development and management experience. Most recently, he led the development and successful commercial introduction of a bifurcated, modular stent-graft used in the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms at Prograft Medical, (acquired by W.L. Gore & Associates). He spent six years at Advanced Cardiovascular Systems (Guidant) where he was a Senior Engineer then Project Group Leader for their PTCA Catheters. Prior to that, he held various engineering positions at Symbion and Becton-Dickinson. Troy holds a B.S. in Engineering Science from Iowa State University and is an inventor on 20 U.S. patents.


Bunty Banarjee – VP, Operations

Bunty Banerjee, Vice President of Operations, is a medical device executive with 15 plus years of experience in the field. Prior to joining Evalve in 2008, Bunty was the Plant Manager at Epicor, a St. Jude Medical company, with general management responsibilities of the Sunnyvale, CA site, including operations, quality and product development. Before St. Jude Medical, Bunty held various operations management and leadership positions including Director of Manufacturing and Director of Operations at Boston Scientific and Reliant Technologies, a pre-IPO medical laser products company. Earlier in his career, Bunty served 3 years in steel plant heavy equipment manufacturing with Caterpillar and Larsen-Toubro. Bunty holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University, India and MS in Industrial Management from Clemson University, SC.


Jonathan D. Feuchtwang – VP, Intellectual Property

Jonathan has over 12 years of intellectual property experience spanning a diverse array of technology. Jonathan's intellectual property experience includes all aspects of patent and trademark prosecution, licensing, patent re-examination and patent interference. His practice has focused exclusively on medical devices for the past 5 years. Jonathan recently joined Evalve after serving as Vice President of Intellectual Property at a sister company, Cierra, Inc, which developed minimally invasive solutions for treating patent foramen ovale (PFO). Prior to his work for Cierra, Jonathan was Asst. Counsel, Patents & Trademarks for Zimmer Technology, a technology holding company of Zimmer Orthopedics. Jonathan managed Zimmer Orthopedics' global patent and trademark portfolios. Jonathan was previously an associate attorney at Piper Rudnick's (now DLA Piper) Chicago office, and an associate attorney at Greer, Burns & Crain, Ltd. Jonathan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois- Chicago, and a Juris Doctor degree, with honors, from the Chicago Kent College of Law.
